I think, really, this is just a way to sort of kick myself into action. I've been vowing to get healthier (and drop tons of weight) for years now. I actually think, well know, that the extra weight is adversely affecting just about every aspect of my life. Mental health problems, physical health problems. Self-esteem and sleep.
At 67 inches and 298 pounds, I've looked into bariatric surgery, but certainly cannot afford the price nor would I look forward to the pain and possible side effects. So what I will do, starting today(!) and with the approval of my doctor, I will be starting the post-op bariatric diet, minus the surgery. It's an extremely restrictive diet, yet it's probably healthier than what I have been eating for years. To start:
Meal One:
0,5 cup Carnation Instant Breakfast (made with skim milk)
0,5 cup sugar-free Jello
Meal Two:
0,5 diluted fruit juice
Meal Three:
0,5 cup low-fat "light" yoghurt
0,5 cup broth
Meal Four:
1 sugar-free popsicle
Meal Five:
0,5 cream soup (made with skim milk)
0,5 cup low-sodium V-8 juice
The restrictiveness of the diet is exactly why I made sure to check with my doctor. Of course, there is the added: drink lots of water, exercise daily, and my favourite, take two Flintstones vitamins. That is the part I am probably looking forward to most. I've been eating one a day for years, but now, two. Who doesn't love Flintstone vitamins?
The only part I am concerned about is the fact that I take Ambien for sleep. Ambien makes me get the munchies and I become so obsessed over food, I simply must eat something. I'm hoping maybe an extra popsicle after taking the medicine will quell that need to stuff my face.
Guilt may play pretty well in the Ambien-induced eating as well, as it seems last night, I came awfully close to burning down the house after I sleepily left a pan on the stove with the heat turned to high.
For exercise, I will start by walking for an hour. I'll make sure to load up some music to keep myself occupied, as I have no real interesting places to walk or explore in my town. I'll also be doing, what is almost always called, "traveling exercises". Exercises you can do in your room/hotel room when you travel.
"Traveling exercises":
20 jumping jacks
20 push ups
20 jumping jacks
20 crunches
20 jumping jacks
20 tricep dips
20 squats
20 jumping jacks
20 lunges
The push-ups I'll have to work up gradually, as I have arms much like a T-Rex. Weak and almost useless. Obviously, they are not quite as short as I have been able to shove handfuls of food in my mouth for years. Same with the tricep dips.
My hopes are for the 160-180 pounds range, but I'll take anything remotely healthy.
Uh, yeah. So, ready, set, GO!
